Note: Borderline was first heard in 2019 when Sunmi performed it on WARNING tour. Sunmi has chosen Borderline as her favorite song that she's written and said she was hesitant to officially release the song since it's very raw. In 2020, a special video of it was released on her official YouTube channel.
On episode 2 of the MNET reality show, Running Girls, Sunmi talked about how she had some time to think about herself after leaving Wonder Girls and the company which ended up in her getting diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. She added that the diagnosis and treatment were relieving and made her feel much better. Since she's heard that other people find it difficult to deal with people with BPD, she expressed that she doesn't want them to get harmed because of her. She highlighted the fact that it's important for everyone to take care of themselves and get to know themselves. "Now I know [myself] so I've cut down on my meds and don't have to worry. I'm strong. I've become stronger." She's also said multiple times that there's no reason for Miyanes to worry since she has it under control.
After this episode got aired, articles were written and Borderline Personality Disorder was trending on Naver.
The song is really special to Sunmi and Miyanes & a lot of fans and non-fans have found comfort in it.
