LALALAY (날라리) Lyric Translation

Updated: Jul 3, 2022

Composed by SUNMI & FRANTS

Lyrics by SUNMI

Arranged by FRANTS

날라리 /nallari/ = a disrespectful person who likes to dress stylishly and idle away their time, delinquent © NAVER Dictionary

Note: According to Sunmi, she was inspired to use the 날라리 concept since her stage persona could seem like a party girl (nallari) but she actually isn't one. She also connected this to her different egos and personas; SUNMI the artist and Lee Sunmi the person.

Translation Note: Nallari is the song's keyword and there's no literal translation for it in English so I've decided to use it as it is in the translation.

[Verse]

marhae mweohae keurenni eojjenni

ddo ibbanga-e deulsseog

onjongil nanli beobseog

What's the use of talking about whether I did that and how I did it?

They're gossiping excitedly again

Throwing a fuss all day

aesso anirago mar-hagido aeseog

neoman bbaego da aneunde

neo keugeo molla maja nan mariya

It's too pitiful to diligently explain that it's not true**

Everyone knows [the truth] except for you

You don't know that, right? Well you know, I'm...

**The rumors/the people spreading them are so pitiful that there's no use explaining the truth.

[Pre-Chorus]

Okay

Okay

bunwigiga jowa keureottamyeon Okay

garuga dwedorog teoneun geotdo Okay

When the atmosphere is good then [I'm] okay

Even if I crumble to dust and get brushed off, [I'll be] okay

mweorago mweol hago danyeodo

No matter what [they] say and do,

You know I'm okay

Naughty but

aljanayo nan Naughty but

anieyo nallari

majeumyeon mweo eojjeol geonde

You know I'm naughty

But I'm not a nallari (=delinquent)

Even if I am, what are you gonna do about it?

[Chorus]

*Nallalalalalalalalalalari (x2)

  • 날라리 /nallari/ = delinquent

  • could also be heard as "nallala...lalalay" thus the title "LALALAY"

[Verse]

na mollara neo mollara

da mollyeowa eodi-e ddo

jeminneun geo eomna

I don't care, you don't care

They're all flocking to somewhere again

Isn't there anything fun?

Wing wing

Win win

beolddecheoreom Wing wing

keureolsurog Win win

Like a swarm of bees, wing wing

The more [they come in], win win

Captain

nan nari seon kalnal wi-e

piri buneun jogeumhan Captain

I'm a small pied piper captain on a sharp blade**

**Although she's on edge, she's still in charge leading her followers like the pied piper

You ready

Get ready

Now

nan yeogiseoman nallari Now

I'm a nallari only here now

[Pre-Chorus]

Okay

Okay

bunwigiga jowa keureottamyeon Okay

garuga dwedorog teoneun geotdo Okay

When the atmosphere is good then [I'm] okay

Even if I crumble to dust and get brushed off, [I'll be] okay

mweorago mweol hago danyeodo

No matter what [they] say and do,

You know I'm okay

Naughty but

aljanayo nan Naughty but

anieyo nallari

majeumyeon mweo eojjeol geonde

You know I'm naughty

But I'm not a nallari (=delinquent)

Even if I am, what are you gonna do about it?

[Chorus]

*Nallalalalalalalalalalari (x2)

  • 날라리 /nallari/ = delinquent

  • could also be heard as "nallala...lalalay" thus the title "LALALAY"

[Bridge]

Ladies and gentlemen

Welcome aboard

I'll take you high, high, high, higher

Don't need to buckle up

If we got caught

*Then we can Just 날라 리

Then we can Just nalla ri

Then we can just fly away**

*wordplay: 날라 means to fly away and 날라리 is nallari

**she's the captain of a plane with her followers as the passengers and she's telling her followers there's no need to prepare cause if they get caught, they can just fly away.

[Chorus]
